Located along the south side of Chelsea River in East Boston, MA, the 148 Condor Street site includes 7.2 acres (2.9 hectares) of undeveloped property and 1 acre (0.4 hectares) of water-sheet. The property is the former site of Hess Oil Company fuel storage tanks but is currently vacant.
In December 2015, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) issued a request for Letters of Interest to undertake the redevelopment and utilization of 148 Condor Street. The BRA encouraged proposals that further its commitment to promote maritime economic development and the retention and creation of job opportunities, all within the existing zoning and regulatory framework. The BRA has awarded the East Boston Community Development Corporation a Tentative Designation status, and the organization has until 2018 to formalize its plans for the site, which includes consolidating three existing East Boston water-dependent businesses into three new buildings on the site.
The site is approximately 141 nautical miles (261 km) from the leading edge of the offshore wind energy areas located south of Martha’s Vineyard, with no on-water overhead restrictions.
